Penistone and Stocksbridge MP Miriam Cates said she was deeply sorry to hear of Prince Philip’s death and her thoughts and sympathies were with Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family.

She said: “We have lost a committed public servant who served this country and the Commonwealth for decades, and who earned the respect and affection of people across the world.

“Prince Philip offered the most devoted strength and support to Her Majesty throughout her reign, and the monarchy is stronger today for his service.

“His Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme inspired generations of young people, and I was honoured to meet Prince Philip when I received my own award.

“On behalf of everyone in the Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency I offer my deepest condolences to the Royal Family.

“Today is a day when the whole country will mourn this loss, and offer our prayers to Her Majesty The Queen at this terrible time.”
