Sheffield Hallam MP Olivia Blake and her staff were due to have an open meeting with parents to discuss their experiences of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) provision in the city.

But it has now been postponed after two members of staff had to self-isolate while awaiting test results for Covid-19. They have been in contact with people who have tested positively recently.

Ms Blake has not been advised to self isolate because she does not have any symptoms but she has decided, given the vulnerable people she works with, that she will cancel all future meetings and engagements until the test results are back.

She said: “I have taken the decision to postpone tomorrow’s meeting on SEND as a precautionary public health measure as two members of my staff are currently being tested for Covid-19 and have been advised to self-isolate.

“This is purely a precautionary measure and the meeting will be rescheduled after we get the results back.

“In the meantime, if anyone would like to send in a testimonial of their experiences of SEND support in Sheffield, we are still collating those.”

The meeting was oversubscribed and Ms Blake was already planning a second one because there had been such demand.

It was due to take place at All Saints Hall, Ringinglow Road.

Ms Blake was elected to represent the Sheffield Hallam constituency during December’s general election.
