Drivers could get a refund or extension on their resident's parking permit if they can prove they have suffered financial hardship due to coronavirus.

Current terms and conditions say there are no refunds in any circumstances but the council has received requests to consider refunds due to Covid-19.

In a report, officers say: "It is proposed to consider individual requests for refunds or three month extensions specifically for Covid-19 related hardship for customers with the condition that they provide evidence to prove that the permit is no longer required due to sale of car or residential move from a permit zone for which it applies.

"This approach reduces the amount of additional work customer services receive, ensures they can process the additional work within current resources, and reduces the risk of a backlog."

Drivers would need to contact customers services themselves and will get an individual, case by case response taking into account their circumstances and evidence provided.

The council is also looking at a blanket three-month extension for all business permits.
