Sheffield Council tenants to get £28,945,000 of electrical improvements
and live on Freeview channel 276
The second phase of the council housing electrical upgrade programme will see 18,000 properties inspected, tested and reported on.
In a report, council officers said: “All electrical installations deteriorate with age and use. There is a need to bring properties up to modern day electrical standards in relation to the requisite legislation, regulations and best practice.

Hide Ad“The council is aiming to achieve a cycle of five years for periodic electrical inspection and testing as recommended. This programme is a key vehicle towards achieving five-year testing, with many properties in this phase being closer to 10 years since the last test. At the same time the programme provides the opportunity to complete important safety and improvement work for tenants.”
The first phase was a three year programme delivered between 2018 and 2021.
Part of this phase’s improvements include installing hard wired smoke alarm systems in replacement of battery-operated units, replacing obsolete or inappropriately located consumer units, improving spread of sockets and installing additional ones as many have not had additional sockets for 50 years, installing carbon monoxide detectors and providing external lighting where there is none.
Funding for the work was approved in a cabinet meeting this week.
