The meeting was due to take place tomorrow on May 20 but councillors and an officer have confirmed it will now not go ahead due to restrictions on gatherings because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Normally, the honorary role of Lord Mayor is held for a year before passing it on to the deputy Lord Mayor.

If Councillor Downing stays in the position it could be the first time this has happened in the council's history.

Coun Gail Smith was due to step up to the position this year.
