Steven Hobson, who has lived on Lowedges Crescent for five years, said he received a letter notifying him of the council’s plan to knock them down in September.

He said he needs the garage for his two mobility scooters and a trailer and without it, he may need to move home.

Steven said: “We signed for the garage before we signed for the house.

“I need it, the only alternative the council can give me is a garage that’s two streets down but I can’t walk that far.

“We haven’t got space in the house, I’ve got space around the house for a shed but I don’t see why we should have to rush out and get this sorted when we haven’t got money for it.

“It’s catch 22, we’re stuck. I don’t understand why they are taking things off disabled people knowing full well we need them and there is nothing else in place.

"I've got two good neighbours who live a few doors up from me, they can't believe what's gone off. Everyone knows I use the garage every day."

The council said it reviewed all council owned garages across the city and found some "not fit for purpose" that need to be demolished.

This included those on Lowedges Crescent which they said were in "poor condition" and there was "very little demand for them".

It said it will attempt to find an alternative option for Mr Hobson.
