Sheffield convenience store can now sell alcohol 24 hours a day
A Sheffield convenience store can now sell alcohol 24 hours a day.
The Budgens store at Parson Cross Post Office on Wordsworth Drive plans to sell goods including alcohol through a serving hatch from 11pm to 7am. The store will also introduce a delivery service.

Sheffield City Council’s licensing sub-committee agreed to the proposal on July 21. Alcohol sales previously ran from 6am to 11pm.
Sheffield public health department objected because of the potential for crime, disorder and public nuisance in a residential area.
Police figures showed 49 crimes were reported within 100m of the premises between May 2025 and April 2026, including 21 violent and sexual offences.
It also said in a written submission that the organisation Waythrough provides specialist services for people with mental health, alcohol and drug addiction in a 24-hour recovery centre at The Greens on Murdock Road. This is within 800 metres.
Community
Chris Mitchener of Licensing Solutions said on behalf of the applicants that the police had made no objections. He said the owners were not aware that any crime had been linked directly to the store.
He also said there is no direct route from The Greens to the store.
“If they say they don’t want us to serve someone, we won’t serve them,” he said.
“It does not mean it should affect everyone else.”
Mr Mitchener added: “It won’t lead to the provision of cheap alcohol or any other changes whatsoever.
“It’s a community food store and that’s what we thrive on. If we upset the community, they won’t use us.”
