Daisy Chain Private Day Care on Langsett Road South at Oughtibridge had a damning inspection in March 2019 when it received an “inadequate” Ofsted rating for all four of the inspection categories.

The nursery later closed down and the owner has now submitted outline plans to build 11 apartments on the site.

More than 35 residents have objected, saying the apartments will add to existing parking problems, the extra traffic will make the already dangerous Bridge Hill even more problematic and the apartments will overshadow their homes.

One Bedford Road resident said: "Oughtibridge has expanded enormously over recent years and is already struggling with traffic and local services.

"The doctors and school are over capacity now and, with the development of the old paper mill going ahead, will be stretched to breaking point.

"The roads are already very busy, especially at commuting times with many documented accidents and injuries. This development can only add to the dangers of that busy, and narrow, part of the road.

"Then there are the residents of this immediate area. Most buildings are of two storey construction of Victorian style, mostly terrace with some larger housing, this development would not suit this area. The size of it would be very imposing, blocking light and potentially infringing privacy.

"This village is no longer a village, I understand development must go on but this part of Sheffield has already been over developed and is struggling to cope.

"Please consider the problems all these new houses will cause especially this development, squeezed into an already tight corner of Oughtibridge."

A Birch House Avenue resident added: "This is not in keeping with the surrounding properties and there are already big traffic problems in the area without adding extra cars, especially as the area at the top of Forge Lane is often a bottleneck.

"Parking is already oversubscribed and the new development, being so tall, is likely to overlook properties lower down."

Planning officers are still considering the application, which can be viewed here.
