Plans were submitted to turn a former retail business into a takeaway at 203 Bellhouse Road, Shiregreen.

But two residents living on the nearby Pavilion Way wrote to the council to raise some concerns.

One said: “There are plenty of takeaway outlets locally in this area already and another one is not required, plus the smell from the rear facing flue will blow right over the estate in which we own property, and for that reason I object.”

Another said: “We are concerned about the opening hours of the takeaway shop. If opened until late hours, the noise produced would affect this quiet area and would especially disturb sleep of families with young children. In addition, the smell produced by the rear facing flue would affect the enjoyment of our gardens.”

But in a statement, G9 Design - the agent for the project - said it would bring benefits to the local area.

They said: “The property as existing is currently home to a failed retail business that is no longer profitable or sustainable therefore we are applying to change the use of the property from retail to a class A1 hot and cold food takeaway.

"Work to the building will be minimal, limited only to adding a flue for kitchen ventilation to the back of the property, out of site from the front of the property at street level. If approved, internal refurnishing will take place to ensure that the property looks smart and doesn’t look run down.

“In this instance very little change will make a large improvement on the feel of the street.

“In conclusion this application seeks only to revitalize a disused business unit and construct a single flue vent at the rear of the property, the position in which it will be seen the least. We do trust that as 201 Bellhouse Road was recently granted a similar permission for more work in total that this application will be passed with little resistance.”
