The redevelopment of Brincliffe Towers, a former old person's home on Brincliffe Edge Road, has been rumbling on for three years.

The latest plans are to alter the Victorian mansion to create a house and to convert the coach house and remove a 1950s extension to create three houses with two parking spaces per house.

The group say there are still outstanding issues with traffic safety, the impact on ecology and the environment and drainage.

They are concerned about the loss of trees and say the historical, cultural and social significance of Brincliffe Towers and its grounds will be lost.

The mansion and coach house, which sit on the edge of Chelsea Park, were used as a residential care home and were subsequently sold off to a private company, the current owners.

They maintained the care home until it closed and the house has been unused since 2010.

The planning application says: "The main house will go through a complete refurbishment to return it to a single dwelling.

"This will entail the removal of the various extensions and, although without listed status, it is recognised that this property has an important status within the local conservation area and will be sensitively refurbished.

"The coach house will go through a similarly sensitive conversion into three dwellings The proposed new houses are of a scale and materials designed to work within the site and will have minimum impact on Brincliffe Edge Road.

"It would normally be anticipated that this size of development area would attract a quantity of houses in the region of 17 to 20.

"We therefore believe that this proposal does not overly develop the area and is a sensitive response within the conservation area."
