In recent years, the area surrounding Stannington community centre and the playing fields has been targeted by fly tippers and cars, motorbikes and quad bikes being driven anti-socially.

The fields are currently leased by Crosspool Juniors FC and Stannington councillors have received complaints and requests for making the site safer.

Now the council will improve safety by installing kissing gates at Wood Lane and Myers Lane, plus new gates and a side panel at the Myers Lane entrance.

Coun Penny Baker said: “The kissing gate will have a radar key so people who are in mobility scooters can still get through.

“These gates will secure the area and will be a wonderful resource for years to come.”

The £18,000 scheme will be funded from the local ward Community Infrastructure Levy.
