Plans for Sheffield's famous Full Monty to be demolished and replaced by new homes

A famous Sheffield landmark could be demolished to make way for housing under new plans.

An application has been submitted to Sheffield City Council to demolish Shiregreen working men’s club, otherwise known at The Full Monty club.

Several scenes from iconic film, which was released in 1997, were shot at the historic venue on Shiregreen Lane.

The location became a tourist destination following The Full Monty’s global success and hosted numerous charity stripping acts over the last two decades.

But it closed suddenly in November 2018 and has been fenced off since.

The application has been submitted by Rotherham-based Eyre Investments, who want to use the land for a future housing development. A demolition notice has also been put up on the fencing outside the building.

If approved, work could to clear the land could start on March 1, with completion expected by 1 June.

A decision on the proposals is expected on 20 February.
