The owners of a farmhouse are planning to build a five-metre wildlife tower for birds, bats and bugs.

The owners of Brooks Bank Farmhouse, Oaks Lane, Midhopestones, have been working with the Barn Owl Trust as part of a redevelopment.

The trust said the concept was to create buildings that are ‘not only beautiful and perfect for wildlife but will last for at least 100 years’.

If approved by Sheffield Council, the tower aims to enhance wildlife habitats alongside plans for barn conversions and a replacement farmhouse.

In a letter to the council, Simon Elliott Associates, on behalf of the owners, said: “The structure will be constructed of local natural stone and a natural slate roof.

“The building includes nesting provision for barn owls, little owls and kestrels, as well as hibernation and breeding spaces for bats and nesting spaces for other bird species.”
