There was wide variation in the savings diners could make. In Sheffield Hallam, the average discount per meal was £6.73 while the lowest was £2.90 at Brightside and Hillsborough.
The scheme, which aimed to boost trade in pubs and restaurants hit by lockdown, ran throughout August. Diners could get a 50 per cent discount when they ate at restaurants registered.
Argys Myrtja, manager of Pontis Italian Kitchen at Fox Valley, said the scheme had been so successful it was continuing with its own version of it.

Hide Ad“We did run a successful take out service during lockdown which proved popular with customers, however the Eat Out to Help Out scheme has been really beneficial.
"It has been a really positive way to introduce our restaurant to people who have not visited before and we were fully booked most evenings, even on days where the discount did not apply.
"In that sense, I think it has encouraged people to get back into their town centres and supporting their local hospitality industry.
"We have decided to create our own version of the scheme to encourage people to keep eating out, we are giving £5 off each bill per head - this great offer will run Monday - Wednesday throughout September."
