Dead Parrot Beer Company is hoping to change an office on Garden Street into a brewery tap.

The site is in the St Vincent’s Quarter and is also part of the Well Meadow conservation area and neighbours a warehouse which is currently used as a microbrewery.

A planning application says: "Works, warehousing and light industry have characterised the area for decades, and new commercial and residential uses are beginning to populate the area in both existing and new buildings.

"Over the past three years, the amount of residential accommodation in the area, which is mostly for student use, has increased rapidly, with the majority of new buildings on Garden Street dedicated to this use.

"Local amenities are relatively scant in comparison to the amount of residents now occupying the area. There are a couple of national chains providing groceries, and some independent takeaways, an historic pub, and a converted church used as a music/dance and youth community centre."

The plans say a brewery tap is "paramount" to maintaining a good relationship and living and working environment for those in the area.

"Sheffield has a strong network of craft brewers and it is common to provide a brewery tap for the sale and sampling of beers produced at the brewery as well as those from further afield.

"The application is for a brewery tap and pub which will also provide community space to the first floor.

"The positioning of the pub in relation to the micro-brewery enables staff members to be flexible between the two, ensures the beer is as local as possible to the point of sale, reducing transportation, and allows customers to combine their visit with a tour of the brewery itself.

"There are a number of examples in Sheffield, particularly within the reaches of the city centre itself. Many of these are situated in mixed use areas, amongst businesses and residential properties. "
