New cocktail and rum bar could join Turtle Bay and Pitcher and Piano in former NUM headquarters building in Sheffield city centre

Watts Planning, on behalf of Voodoo Doll Ltd, submitted an application to Sheffield Council for the change of use of the vacant Unit 3 of the former National Union of Mineworkers headquarters.

If approved, Mojo would bring its unique cocktail and rum bar to the Steel City after successful openings in Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool and Harrogate.

Watts Planning said in a statement: "The proposed restaurant and cocktail bar use and extended opening hours are appropriate to the city centre context and will complement and contribute to the commercial mix and enhance the vitality and viability of Sheffield centre.”

It would be open Sunday to Thursday from 8am until 2am and Friday to Saturday 8am to 4am. They say the opening hours will allow for breakfast, lunch and evening meals, all day coffee, snacks and specialist late night use.

The building was originally commissioned by Arthur Scargill and NUM occupied it for four years from 1988 to 1992 before moving to Barnsley.

It then stood empty for more than two decades and was threatened with demolition in 2006 until Turtle Bay and Pitcher and Piano opened in 2018.
