It's key of the door as neighbours play bingo outside in a Sheffield street

Friends on Newlyn Place and Newlyn Road, Woodseats, were going stir crazy being isolated, so Jim Gibbs came up with the idea of a game of street bingo.

About 50 neighbours took part, socially distancing in their front gardens, and Jim used a kid's fishing net to hand out the bingo cards.

He said: “We’re on a cul-de-sac so everybody is very friendly, each year we have a scarecrow competition.

“One of the neighbours said it would be a good idea to look after each other during lockdown and we set up a WhatsApp group.

“We have loads of bunting on the street and we thought bingo would be a good idea.

“One neighbour had the balls and one had the cards and we all donated prizes but ended up with too many so held a raffle.”

Jim made a megaphone from lining paper and PVA glue and the numbers were also messaged to everyone.

He said: “I managed to boom the numbers down the road and it took a long time to play but it was fun and enjoyable.

“People want to do it again, but I don't know if my voice will hold up.

“When you're bored it's a good outlet so you never know what we'll do next time.”

The raffle raised £110, which was donated to The Grace Foodbank.
