All 10 members present at the planning and highways committee meeting voted in favour of plans to demolish a vacant post office site and build nine new apartments with space for cycle storage on Pitsmoor Road in Pitsmoor.
Tarlowchan Dubb, who spoke in the meeting in support of the plans, said the site was located in close proximity to several hospitals.

“As stated to your planning officers in December 2019, pre Covid, during a pre-application meeting we suggested the target for these apartments would be local NHS workers.
“As the past few months have confirmed to us all, NHS workers are the frontline staff in our society and clapping for their efforts every Thursday of course is to be encouraged but what our key workers also need is good quality, affordable housing in close proximity to their place of work.”
Councillor Jayne Dunn, chair of the committee, said it was a “really exciting development”.

Ahead of the meeting there were some concerns from local residents about a lack of parking but the applicant said it was targeted at residents who can manage without a car either because their workplace is within walking distance or they are able to access public transport.
The plans were recommended for approval before the meeting by council officers.
