Developers want to knock down bungalow and build five homes in its place in this Sheffield neighbourhood

Plans were submitted to knock down a bungalow and erect five detached houses on 218 Wortley Road, High Green.

But 15 representations were received by the council, all objecting. Issues raised by objectors included overdevelopment, increased traffic, insufficient parking, disturbance during construction and wildlife.

Despite these, council officers said it should be granted conditionally.

In a report, officers said: “The site is capable of accommodating a small self contained development such as this, without negatively affecting the character and appearance of the area.

"The mature boundary treatment which screens the site from the road and contributes to the appearance of the street scene will be retained. The amenity and living conditions of future residents and existing residentsadjoining the site will remain satisfactory.

"The adjoining highways are capable of accommodating the moderate increase in vehicle movements generated by the development without detriment to highway safety. Appropriate parking can be provided for residents.

"It is considered that the most important local polices in the determination of this application, which in this case revolve around housing land supply, highway related impacts, design, amenity and landscape impacts, do, when considered as a collection, align with the Framework."
