Crowdfunding appeal launched to fund mural at Sheffield park pavillion

Coun Paul Turpin has started an appeal to raise £1,000 for a wildlife design to be created on Meersbrook Park pavilion.

Artist Faunographic will come on board and create artwork similar to her bird mural on Meersbrook Park Road.

Coun Turpin said: “The pavilion is an amazing resource and is used every day for 10 hours a day by school clubs, craft groups, yoga classes and for children’s birthday parties.

“It’s quite an old building, quite tired, and a few years ago the council were talking about knocking it down but we are renovating it.

“There’s a big gable end wall and it’s painted every couple of months but it’s repeatedly covered in graffiti so we want to get a really nice big mural on there.”

Coun Turpin said there was a £1,000 pot of money available to improve the community but the rest needed to come from fundraising and sponsorship from local businesses.

He added: “We love this building and it’s a fantastic landmark. We think it would be great for everyone who uses the park to see a beautiful painting here as an amazing backdrop.

“The artwork will be based on ideas from the pre-schoolers at the play centre and the primary schoolers from the after school club.
