Their comments came as pay rates show the number of council employees who earn £50,000 to £55,000 had risen from 56 officers to 84.
The number of officers who earn £55,000 to £60,000 has risen from 26 to 31.

Hide AdAnd the number who earn £70,000 to £75,000 has risen from 15 to 23.
Coun Mohammed Mahroof told the audit scrutiny board: "There are no members of the BAME community in senior executive roles and we could be the pioneers in this.
"How many in the bracket of £50,000 salaries are BAME? If we had these figures it would show transparency and whether we are reflecting the communities that we are serving."
Coun Angela Argenzio added: "There are less women at a senior level so it would be nice to have the figures for women too."

Hide AdOfficers say they can provide the details at a later date. The salary figures came from the council's accounts, which have yet to be formally audited.
David Phillips, head of strategic finance, said the pay rises had happened over time.
"These limits were set at £40,000 about 25 years ago and the government eventually moved them up to £50,000.
"We've not had a pay rise of more than two per cent in the last ten years and a number of years at nought per cent but gradually, over time, people have moved up into the next salary band. There has been a gradual creeping up of salaries."
