Council staff moved to fight coronavirus on frontline in Barnsley

More than 160 staff members from Barnsley Council are supporting the town's residents and businesses during the coronavirus pandemic.

Staff from across the organisation, as well as Berneslai Homes, are temporarily moving roles and using their skill set to support those who need it the most.

Coun Sir Steve Houghton, council leader, praised the ‘flexible’ and ‘resilient’ workforce for embracing the change and stepping up the help Barnsley's most vulnerable residents.

He said: “I couldn't be prouder of our staff who have embraced the changes we've been faced with and taken it in their stride.”

“Our redeployed staff have shown willingness and dedication to supporting the people of Barnsley by moving into new roles and adapting their current skills to provide critical support to our communities.

“We’re seeing the fantastic results of their work in our emergency contact centre, through the re-training staff to support our waste collections and social care settings, and how we’re advising local businesses and people about the funding and support available to them.
