Council secures £1.080m for major Goldthorpe road improvements

Barnsley Council has secured government funding of £1.080m for their ongoing improvements to the A635 at Goldthorpe.

The works include replacement of the bridge bearings at Highgate Railway Bridge, bridge joint replacement at Nicholas Lane Bridge and carriageway resurfacing of the bypass.

Works at Highgate Railway Bridge have already started, with the joint replacement at Nicholas Lane Bridge and carriageway resurfacing works due to be finished by the end of next March.

Councillor Chris Lamb, cabinet spokesperson for place (environment and transport) said: “This much-needed funding will prolong the life of the principal highway network at Goldthorpe. The improved road network will strengthen the attractiveness of the area for future investment and projects that support economic growth, giving confidence that a robust road network is in place.

"This supports the council’s ambition to attract more businesses and jobs to Goldthorpe and the borough in general.”
