"We’re looking for someone exceptional, who’s led in a local government setting before, or who’s at senior level in a social policy background.

“You’ll have a high level of awareness in politics, expertise in commercial elements and a proven track record of delivering successful and complex projects.

“You’ll have a desire to improve people’s lives, tackle issues head on and work with important figures in and beyond the city’s borders to maximise opportunities."

Charlie Adan has held the role of interim chief executive ever since.

She said: “It is a good council striving to be great. It has achieved a huge amount but needs to take that next step so that it achieves its real potential. It can be a pioneer with a grasp on being a 21st century council, working in partnership and leading the way.

“Sheffield is ready to grasp that across the leadership, the cabinet and across the wider city, striving to make the place better.
