Clean-up at popular Sheffield park after Storm Christoph bathes it in mud

This was the mud bath left in a Sheffield park after torrential rain hit the city.

Endcliffe park was left bathed in silt from the river Porter following Storm Christoph earlier this week.

Local councillor Barbara Masters, who has previously worked with the Friends Group to clean up the park, said it was lucky the damage wasn’t worse.

“The main problem is the amount of silt washed down by the rain and the stream. There’s a fair amount of debris from trees on the paths as well and branches trapped against bridges and banks and it all has to be cleared.

“There were many residents picking their way carefully through the muck as they enjoyed the sunshine and took children to the playground.

“A member of staff from the parks department who was doing a great job clearing the silt around the playground area under very challenging conditions."

She thanked park staff for the work they are doing under social distancing restrictions.
