BARNSLEY EAST: Labour's Stephanie Peacock holds the seat with a majority of 3,000
While this may have been a disastrous night for the Labour Party, at least they have had some good news in Barnsley East, where Stephanie Peacock has held the seat with a substantially diminshed majority of 3,000
Stephanie Peacock has represented the constituency since 2017, when she won with a majority of over 13,000.
That was reduced to just 3,000 when voters went to the polls yesterday.
In the previous election, UKIP took 3,247 votes. The Brexit Party, which was formed by UKIP’s former leader Nigel Farage, was voted for by over 11,000 people in the constituency, splitting the Labour vote.
The results are:
Stephanie Peacock (Labour): 14,329
Adam Gregg (Conservative): 10,377
Richard Thomas James (Green Party): 922
Jim Ferguson (Brexit Party): 11,112
Sophie Thornton (Liberal Democrat): 1,330
