BARNSLEY CENTRAL: South Yorkshire mayor Dan Jarvis holds seat but majority is slashed by over 12,000
The region’s metro mayor Dan Jarvis has held his seat in Barnsley Central, but has seen his majority reduced by over 12,000 following a huge surge in votes for the Brexit Party.
Labour’s Mr Jarvis is a big name in South Yorkshire politics, and will now represent the Barnsley Central constituency for a fourth term.
The former soldier was elected as the mayor of the Sheffield City Region last year.
Just as with Barnsley East, the vote share won by the Brexit Party has split the Labour vote massively.
The Nigel Farage vehicle was voted for by over 11,233 people in the constituency.
The votes for each candidate are as follows:
Iftikhar Ahmed – Conservative and Unionist Party: 7,892
Victoria Felton- The Brexit Party: 11,233
Tom Heyes- Green Party: 900
Dan Jarvis- Labour Party: 14,804
Will Sapwell- Liberal Democrats: 1,176
Ryan Williams- Yorkshire Party
Donald Wood- Independent
