Sharon Kemp, chief executive of RMBC, told a meeting of Rotherham’s health and wellbeing board on May 26 that infection rates have fallen in the borough, and stood at 24.5 per 100,000, as of May 24.

In the over 60’s, however, the infection rate is just 5.9 per 100,000.

Ms Kemp added that the board is watching areas with new varients of concern “very closely.”

“Vaccine performance has been really successful, and we will continue to encourage everyone that is of the age that is now being called to take up that opportunity.

South Yorkshire performing strongly on the vaccine rollout with Rotherham leading the way, according to Chris Edwards, accountable officer for NHS Rotherham CCG.

250,000 vaccines have now delivered to Rotherham registered patients, and the rollout is “on track” to meet the national deadline.

75 per cent of all eligible Rotherham registered patients have now had their first dose, and 48 percent have been fully vaccinated with two doses.
