What turned the Rotherham crimes into a sixteen-year scandal was political correctness. Those who tried to sound an alarm were hushed.
Authorities from bottom to top were paralysed by fear of breaking the PC taboo because the penalty is savage – loss of job, maybe even of career. Remember Professor Hunt last year, sacked for offending some feminists because he made a gentle joke about women in laboratories? Political correctness has become a cruel insanity. I fear it will continue unless it is denounced from the very top.
