Police worker on different beat for cause

A POLICE community support officer is going on a different beat to raise cash for charity.

Katherine McFadzean, aged 27, is running the Great North Run to help Heart Research UK as her father and grandfather prepare for major heart surgery.

Katherine, who lives in Higham, Barnsley, has been running since she was just 10 years old and has already completed seven half marathons, including four previous Great North Runs.

Her dad John McFadzean, a police sergeant in West Yorkshire, is awaiting an operation to correct aortic stenosis, a narrowing of the aortic valve.

Her grandfather is also having a heart pacemaker operation and, because heart disease runs in her family, Katherine decided to run for Heart Research UK.

Katherine said: “I’m happy to do what I can to raise money for research into heart disease.

“I’m more nervous about the event this year as I know every penny counts.

“I’ll be contacting friends and family and my parents’ friends as well, to raise as much money as I can.”
