The police watchdog is investigating the police handling of calls about a Doncaster man who was walking on a motorwaybefore being hit by a car and killed.

Ben Lloyd, aged 24, from Doncaster, was knocked down on the westbound carriageway of the M62 near Pontefract in the early hours of December 21.

He had reportedly been seen walking near to junction 32 and was the subject of three calls to police.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is now investigating. Details of the incident and the calls were referred to the IPCC by the force on December 23.

A spokesman said it would look at what action was taken by police and whether national guidelines and the force’s own policies were followed.

West Yorkshire Police refused to comment while the investigation is ongoing.
