RESIDENTS in Rotherham are being urged by police to keep their homes and vehicles secure.
Householders are warned to be on their guard, particularly in the warmer weather.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Most burglary offences occur in homes where doors and windows are unlocked.
“Burglars will target people who leave doors and windows open or on a locked latch. Burglars will target people with laptops, mobile phones, handbags, purses and keys left in full view and even close to an open door.
“People should remember all doors, garages and sheds should always be kept locked, even if they are at home and especially if they are in the garden, to ensure thieves cannot get in. The harder it is for thieves to get in, the less chance a person has of becoming a victim of crime.”
