A police search of a Sheffield suburb was carried out following a report that a man was attacked and pushed to the ground by a gang.
Officers were called to Retford Road, Woodhouse Mill, Sheffield, following a report from a member of the public that a man had been attacked and pushed to the ground by a group of five other men.
The report was received at 7pm yesterday but when officers arrived at the scene of the alleged attack the victim was not there.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "At around 7pm yesterday evening, police received a third party report from a witness who had seen a man believed to have been attacked and pushed to the ground by a group of around five men on Retford Road, Sheffield.
"PCSOs conducted a search of the area and conducted enquiries to identify the reported victim.
"Any reports of this nature reported to police will be fully investigated."
