Police search Sheffield estates for weapons
Police searches are taking place on two Sheffield estates today in a bid to find hidden weapons.
Officers are searching for weapons in Manor and Arbourthorne in a day of action organised as part of 'Operation Fortify'.
CRIME: Jurors to resume deliberations in trial of three Sheffield men accused of murderFortify focuses on organised crime groups in Manor, Arbourthorne and Parson Cross.and when it was launched in November 2016 it was in response to the three estates having seen the most significant increases in gang activity and firearm use at that time compared to other areas of the city.
Officers will be looking for weapons which may have been hidden in public spaces to be available for use, or those which may have been dumped after being used in crimes.
In February a number of similar searches were carried out across the city as part of a national week of action against knife crime, codenamed 'Operation Sceptre,' which was aimed at reducing knife crime in response to an increase in offences across the country.
