A delivery driver was hit over the head and knocked to the ground in a van-jacking in Sheffield.

He was driving along Bowman Drive, Charnock, when a car pulled up behind with its lights flashing.

The van driver, who was in a white Vauxhall Vivaro travelling towards Charnock Dale Road, pulled over and went to the back of his van, where the silver Vauxhall Astra following him had stopped.

A man from the car started pointing at the rear of the van and as the delivery driver turned his back he was hit over the head and shoulders and knocked to the ground.

The 24-year-old delivery driver's van was then stolen.

It was later found, with its contents, on Basegreen Avenue, Basegreen.

A police investigation into the van-jacking, which happened between 11am and 11.30am on Monday, October 10, is underway.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "A 24-year-old man was delivering parcels around the Charnock area of Sheffield when he was reportedly assaulted and his van stolen by two men.

"It is understood that the driver was in a white Vauxhall Vivaro van, travelling along Bowman Drive towards Charnock Dale Road, when a silver-coloured Vauxhall Astra approached the rear of the van, flashing its lights.

"The 24-year-old pulled over to the side of the road and got out of his van, as one of the men from the Astra was reportedly pointing to the rear end of his van.

"As he turned his back, the delivery driver was then reportedly hit over his head and shoulders, causing him to fall to the ground. The driver’s van was then driven off in convoy with the Astra.

"The van and its contents was located a short time later on Basegreen Avenue, Sheffield. The 24-year-old suffered minor injuries.

"Did you see this incident? Do you know who the men are?"
