Police probe into death of swan and cygnet in north Derbyshire

An investigation has been launched into claims a swan and cygnet were deliberately mown down in north Derbyshire.

The birds were hit by a vehicle in Nethermoor Road, Wingerworth.

Residents claim the collision was deliberate.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: Police are investigating the deaths of a swan and signet in Wingerworth.

"Villagers called police at around 8.10am on Monday, June 27 to report that a swan and cygnet had been hit by a vehicle in Nethermoor Road.

"Witnesses have alleged that a van or car drove deliberately at the birds.

"The local Safer Neighbourhood team and wildlife crime officers have been made aware of the incident and are investigating."

Anyone with information should call Derbyshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 110 of June 27.
