Police probe firework attack

Detectives are investigating a suspected arson attack after a firework was pushed through the letterbox of a house.

Police were called to the property on St Augustine’s Avenue, Chesterfield, yesterday, at about 1am, after the homeowner was woken up by the smoke alarm sounding.

They went downstairs to find a firework on the floor that appeared to have been pushed through the letterbox and the kitchen filled with smoke.

No-one was injured in the incident.
