Police probe into damag caused to historic bridge in Clumber Park

A police probe is underway after a 250 year old bridge in Clumber Park was damaged over the weekend.

Grade I listed Clumber Bridge, which goes over the River Poulter, was found damaged at around 8am on Saturday.

An abandoned burnt out car was found next to it.

Police officers are looking into whether there was a crash or if the damage was intentional.

A National Trust spokesman said: "We are deeply saddened to confirm that a serious incident of vandalism has occurred at the iconic Ornamental Bridge at Clumber Park. This is now being investigated by Nottinghamshire Police.

"As this is an ongoing situation we are not able to offer further comment, other than to express our sincere gratitude for the huge amount of support and kind words that we are receiving from our visitors and members of the public."
