POLICE officers have been organising rock nights for youths in Bolsover to help keep them out of trouble.

The first free gig was held on Friday, when more than 80 youngsters watched performances by local bands.

Further gigs are planned on May 25 and June 22.

Officers from Bolsover Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team and youth workers from Derbyshire County Council organised the gigs after asking young people in the town what they wanted to do in their spare time.

PCSO Ben Perry said: “The rock nights were arranged after consultation with young people in the area who were bored and wanted something to do at the weekend.

“Events like this help prevent anti-social behaviour and groups of young people hanging around on the streets.”
