PC Gary Nicholls, aged 43, who was based at Worksop police station, was dismissed after a misconduct hearing chaired by Nottinghamshire Police Chief Constable Craig Guildford.

He was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour through 'discreditable conduct'.

PC Nicholls was convicted of assault after a court case in August last year.

He lodged an appeal against his conviction, which was dismissed last month.

Detective Inspector Louise Jordan said: “Nottinghamshire police expect the highest standards of behaviour from its staff.

"The conviction of PC Nicholls fundamentally undermines the trust and confidence placed in him by Nottinghamshire Police and damages public confidence in policing."
