Police name fight-for-life victim of “unprovoked” attack

THIS is 35-year-old Iain Eldridge - the victim of an “unprovoked” attack who is fighting for his life in a Sheffield hospital, say police.

Detectives today appealed for information as Mr Eldridge remained in a critical condition.

He was assault in the erly hours of yesterday morning outside a hairdresser’s shop, near to the Penny Farthing public house, on Station Road, Bawtry, in Doncaster.

The man was with his girlfriend when he was approached by an unknown man who fled the scene after the attack.

He was initially taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary but later transferred to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield with a severe head injury.

The offender is described as a white, male, of stocky build, in his late 20s to early 30s with blond short hair.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or have any information to assist the ongoing investigation should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 87 of Sunday, January 1, 2012.
