The road was closed to allow officers to carry out initial enquiries into the incident, but has now been reopened.

After the shooting, residents were told to stay inside and lock their doors and people returning to the street were escorted back to their homes by officers.

One local woman who did not want to be named said she was in bed when she heard three shots at about 9.20pm.

"I knew it wasn't fireworks because it sent a chill down my bones," she said.

"My kids were worried but the police were really quick to get here.

"There have been a couple of shootings around here but it doesn't phase me at all.

"I just think they are idiots and if they want to fight they should go to North Korea."

On Tuesday morning, the only trace of the incident was a fuel spill believed to have been caused by a bullet which pierced one of the vehicles fuel tanks.

Local residents reported that a total of five bullet casings had been found on the street by officers.

A man who said he lived nearby said he had only heard about the shooting second hand but agreed that it was 'very worrying'.

"I would think it was drug related or a vendetta or something like that," he said.

"It is frightening but you hear about things going off on every estate."
