Police keen to trace man over theft of purse from Barnsley OAP

Police officers investigating the theft of a purse from a Barnsley shopper have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to trace.

An 82-year-old Barnsley woman was shopping in Kendray Street in Barnsley town centre when her purse was stolen at around 12.25pm on Monday, December 21.

The purse has been found but a quantity of cash had been taken from it.

PC Phil Hays said: “While we appreciate that the image is not of the best quality, I would ask people who were in the area at the time to give some thought to the clothing the man in the picture is wearing.

“The man we would like to speak to is described as white, about 6ft tall and of a slim build. He was wearing a dark coloured jacket with the hood up and grey jogging trousers.

“Did you see anyone wearing this at the time of the incident? Did you see anything suspicious?”
