Police in Sheffield have issued a warning about thieves breaking into cars in two suburbs in the north of the city.

Officers said there was an increase in break-ins across High Green and Chapeltown last weekend.

They are urging people to avoid leaving valuables on display in their vehicles.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "We have seen a rise in damage and theft from motor vehicles in the High Green and Chapeltown areas this weekend.

"Please ensure you do not leave valuables on display, this makes it extra easy for criminals to pounce.

"If you see anyone acting suspiciously around yours or other vehicles please phone 101 or report online on the South Yorkshire Police website. The online reporting form is really easy and fast to use."
