Van drivers in South Yorkshire are being urged by police to be vigilant after a spate of thefts of and from commercial vehicles.

Two Ford transit vans, parked in Platts Common, Barnsley, had all their wheels stolen and tow bars taken overnight last Wednesday, while on Bonfire Night tools were stolen from a van at Smithies.

Another van was broken into overnight at a hotel in Wombwell. The locks were forced from the door and power tools and drills worth £1,000 stolen.

Several vans have also been stolen from the Doncaster area during Wednesday and Thursday and are believed to have been driven towards Humberside. Supt Liz Watson, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “Any break-in can be costly and inconvenient not only for you, but for your employer.”
