Police issue closure notice to fast-food restaurant in Sheffield city centre

The closure notice, issued by South Yorkshire Police, has appeared on the shutters of S1 Food Bar in Fitzalan Square.

Superintendent Shaun Morley issued the notice as police have "reasonable grounds" to suspect the take-away has resulted in, or likely to result in, nuisance to members of the public.

The notice has been issued under section 76 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014.

The Act also gives police the power to issue a closure notice if there has been, or is like soon to be, "disorder ear those premises associated with the use of those premises".

The notice is intended to "prevent the nuisance or disorder from continuing, recurring or occurring".

An application to close the premises, under section 80 of the Act, will be heard at Sheffield Magistrates Court this afternoon.

If the section 80 order is made, the fast-food restaurant would be closed for as long as the court decide, making it an offence for any person to remain on the premises.

The notice warns that anybody failing to comply, other than the person living in the premises or the owner, could be punishable by a maximum of three months' imprisonment, a fine or both.
