Police are investigating after house and car windows in Barnsley were smashed yesterday by someone using a catapult from a moving car.

Car windows have been damaged as a result of marbles being fired at them. Several house windows have also been targeted.

Three incidents have so far been reported in the Darfield area, two in Monk Bretton and two close to Barnsley town centre.

Inspector Julie Mitchell, from the Barnsley West Local Policing Team, said: “Causing criminal damage is unacceptable and this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in any way.

“We will be reviewing CCTV footage of the areas and I would like to ask for the public’s help to trace those responsible for causing this damage.

“It is unclear at the minute as to how these incidents were exactly carried out, but we believe those responsible may have been travelling in a car and using a catapult to launch the marbles at the windows.

“I would ask that anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area last night or who may have witnessed one of the incidents to contact us.

“If you have any information, please call us on 101.”
