South Yorkshire Police are to be investigated by the IPCC over their handling of allegations against paedophile rock star Ian Watkins.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission, which is already investigating South Wales Police over whether they acted quickly enough on tip-offs about his offending, is to look into the South Yorkshire and Bedfordshire forces.

Watkins, the former Lostprophets frontman, admitted a series of sex offences last month and was yesterday jailed for 35 years.

Jan Williams, IPCC commissioner, said they were looking into whether information held by the forces on Watkins could have brought him to justice sooner.
