Muggers who assaulted a man in South Yorkshire and stole his phone and cash are being sought by police.

Three attackers reportedly set upon the 36-year-old in the Masbrough area of Rotherham, leaving him with minor facial injuries, in the early hours of Sunday (May 28).

The 36-year-old was walking along Midland Road towards the railway bridge at about 12.50am when he is said to have been approached by a group of men.

Officers believe three men were involved in the assault, in which the man's phone and a small amount of cash were taken.

Two of the attackers are described as Asian and of medium build.

One of the men is described as in his mid-20s and wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up and a scarf covering the lower half of his face.

The second man is described as in his late teens, clean-shaven, with black hair and wearing dark clothing.

Police say they have no description of the third man.
