Police are giving youths permission to daub graffiti around a South Yorkshire skatepark – for one day only.
Youths are invited to Dell Park, off Clear View, Grimethorpe, Barnsley, on Tuesday, May 28, to take part in a workshop with graffiti artist Steve Hemingway.
The event has been organised by police and community support officers from the Cudworth safer neighbourhood team and Barnsley Council.
It is being held as a ‘diversionary activity’ for young people during the school holidays, to help keep them out of trouble.
Youngsters taking part will be given the chance to try their hand at graffiti art themselves.
The Mayor of Barnsley has been invited to the event.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “The aim of the event is to try to get them interested in art and give them an opportunity to have a go themselves.
“Permission to use the skate park is being kindly provided by Brierley Town Council and Barnsley Council’s parks department.”
The event, which is free of charge, will run from 2pm.
